Bruce Springsteen is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and actor. Springsteen is known for his unique brand of heartland rock, which combines elements of folk, rock, and country music.
Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen was born on September 23, 1949, at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey.
He is of Italian, Irish, and Dutch ancestry. In Freehold, New Jersey, he was raised Catholic. Adele Ann (née Zerilli; born 1925) was his mother, and she was a native of Brooklyn’s Bay Ridge.
She was the family’s primary provider of income and worked as a legal secretary. His father, bus driver Douglas Frederick “Dutch” Springsteen (1924–1998), held a variety of jobs.
His father struggled with mental health concerns all of his life, which got worse as he aged.
Virginia and Pamela, Springsteen’s younger sisters, are both musicians (born c. 1962).
Afterwards, he stopped acting to pursue photography and eventually took pictures for his albums Human Touch, Lucky Town, and The Ghost of Tom Joad. The latter had a brief acting career.

He claimed in a 2012 interview that rather than his political beliefs, his Catholic upbringing had the most influence on his music. He stated his faith had given him a “very active spiritual life” but quipped that this “made it very tough sexually” and added “once a Catholic, always a Catholic”.
Frank Sinatra, a fellow New Jersey native, was a performer he grew up listening to on the radio. At the age of seven, Elvis Presley’s appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1956 and 1957 piqued his interest in music.
Soon after, for $6 a week, his mother rented him a guitar from Mike Diehl’s Music in Freehold, but it didn’t give him the immediate satisfaction he was looking for.

He started eating largely vegetarian, ran up to six miles on the treadmill, and worked out three times a week after becoming upset with being an underweight “fast food junkie” who needed assistance leaving the stage after a performance.
