Born on February 11, 1992, in Mount Ulla, North Carolina, Smith had a passion for football since he was young. He attended West Rowan High School, where he played as a linebacker and defensive end. As a senior, Smith had impressive stats with 98 tackles and 16.5 sacks, earning him recognition and accolades.
Smith’s impressive performance in high school led to him being recruited by the University of Arkansas. He played for the Razorbacks from 2010 to 2013, where he recorded an impressive number of tackles and sacks each year. As a junior in 2012, he had 52 tackles and 9.5 sacks, and in his senior year, he had 37 tackles and 8.5 sacks, earning him a second-team All-SEC selection in 2013.
